Battle Creek Yard Waste Site

Free Ramsey County yard waste site on Winthrop Street for soft yard waste and food scraps; open to Washington County.

Battle Creek Yard Waste Site, at 389 Winthrop St. S in Saint Paul, takes leaves, grass, pumpkins, garden waste and food scraps, but no wood. Its hours from April through November are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; from December through March it opens on weekends only.

Serves: Saint Paul trash pickup and drop-off rules.

What Battle Creek takes and what it does not

Leaves, grass, pumpkins and garden waste, houseplant leaves and stems included, plus bagged food scraps. The county’s 2026 Recycling Guide marks Battle Creek “No wood waste,” so trees, branches and shrubs belong at Frank and Sims or Midway. There is no mulch or compost to take home here.

Battle Creek is one of four Ramsey County yard waste sites, and one of two in Saint Paul, that Washington County residents may use for free.

Rules at every Ramsey County yard waste site

Ramsey County runs seven free yard waste sites for county residents, who should have a driver’s license ready as proof of residency. Businesses, dumping trailers, dump trucks and power equipment are turned away, bags of any kind stay with you, and brush has to be unloaded apart from soft yard waste. The full lists are on the county’s yard waste page ↗; that page names five holiday closures, while the county’s food scraps page also lists Thanksgiving Day for the yard waste sites.
