Chapman Field Trash and Recycling Center
A drop-off on Old Cutler Road, and the only Miami-Dade center that refuses appliances, tires and mattresses.
Chapman Field Trash and Recycling Center, at 13600 Old Cutler Road, keeps hours of 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day. Of the county’s 13 neighborhood centers, it is the only one the county lists against all three of appliances, tires and mattresses, and it is not among the centers that take used motor oil, electronics or cardboard. Paving, fencing and new entrance signs for it are budgeted for fiscal 2025-26.
Serves: Miami-Dade County trash pickup and drop-off rules.
What this center takes and what it does not
It takes household trash, tree and yard cuttings, up to three cubic yards of construction debris a day and up to three cubic yards of wooden or chain-link fence, the fence limit every center shares. Food and kitchen garbage are refused. Appliances, tires and mattresses are all refused here: Norwood and Richmond Heights also turn away appliances, and Richmond Heights mattresses, but Chapman Field is the only center on all three of the county’s refusal lists. It is not one of the seven centers listed for used motor oil, and it appears on neither the used electronics nor the cardboard list. The county’s 2025-26 Christmas tree drop-off list named 11 of the 13 centers and left Chapman Field out.
About this site
The county’s own sources place the site at three addresses: the solid waste service page gives 13600 Old Cutler Road in Coral Gables, the county GIS layer of solid waste sites gives 13601 Deering Bay Drive in Coral Gables at the same ZIP code, 33158, and the FY 2025-26 adopted budget gives 13600 SW 60 Avenue in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. County sources therefore disagree on whether the gate stands inside Coral Gables or in unincorporated Miami-Dade; the GIS layer records the land as county-owned. The adopted FY 2025-26 budget and multi-year capital plan carries capital program 2000001371 for this center, $1.322 million for entrance signs, fencing, blacktopping, asphalting and striping of the parking lot, and impact-resistant windows. Those are budgeted plans, not completed work.
Rules at every county center
The centers serve DSWM waste fee customers, and the attendant scans a Florida driver’s license or ID against the address list. Any eligible customer may use any of the 13 centers, not only the nearest one. The full rules are on the operator’s listing, Miami-Dade Solid Waste.
