Foxhole Disposal and Recycling Center
Mecklenburg County’s full-service center on Lancaster Highway, with a weekday landfill that takes the longest trailers.
Foxhole Disposal and Recycling Center is at 17131 Lancaster Highway in Charlotte. Its drop-off area hours are Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The landfill, a separate section reached across the scales, is open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed on Saturday. The landfill takes trailers over 16 feet and loads too big for a full-service center.
Serves: Charlotte trash pickup and drop-off rules.
What this center takes and what it does not
The drop-off area takes the county’s full-service list: household trash, recyclables, plastic bags and film, bulky waste, appliances, electronics, household hazardous waste, tires and mattresses, with the limits shown in the fields. It also takes:
- Residential food scraps for composting.
- Trees up to 48 inches in diameter, as at Compost Central. Hickory Grove and North Mecklenburg take trees up to 24 inches.
- Yard waste from businesses, which the county directs here or to Compost Central.
The landfill, on weekdays only, takes:
- Trailers over 16 feet long. Every trailer of 12 feet or longer crosses the scales and unloads at the landfill’s working face.
- Loads over 14 cubic yards, which a county fee sheet sends straight to the landfill instead of a full-service center.
- Small quantities of dirt, sod and concrete, from residents only, in pickup trucks or 10-foot trailers.
- Clean, unpainted drywall at reduced rates; the full-service sites take it for recycling.
It does not take business hazardous material, explosives, ammunition or radioactive items.
About this site
Foxhole sells bulk and bagged mulch and compost. The county is taking bids to mill about 4,300 square yards and repave about 24,000 square yards of the landfill’s roadways. The pre-bid meeting is on site at 2 p.m. on September 29, 2026, and bids open on October 13, 2026.
