Los Angeles-Glendale S.A.F.E. Center

A Saturday-only household hazardous waste and electronics drop-off inside a water reclamation plant.

The Los Angeles-Glendale S.A.F.E. Center sits on Colorado Boulevard in Atwater Village, inside the Los Angeles-Glendale Water Reclamation Plant, and its hours are Saturdays only, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Because the center is on plant grounds, a state-issued photo ID is required at the security gate. LA Sanitation & Environment reopened it in July 2026, Saturdays only for now.

Serves: Los Angeles trash pickup and drop-off rules and, as the closest permanent site the City of Glendora names, Glendora trash pickup and recycling rules.

What this center takes and what it does not

It takes household hazardous waste and electronics free from City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County residents, up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds a visit: paint and solvents, motor oil, filters and other car fluids, cleaners, pesticides, pool chemicals, aerosol cans, fluorescent and LED bulbs, propane and other gas cylinders up to 5 gallons, household, car and lithium-ion batteries including e-bike and e-scooter batteries, TVs, computers, phones and cables, and home sharps in a lidded puncture-proof container. It does not take ammunition or explosives, radioactive or medical waste, smoke detectors, electric vehicle batteries, fans, heaters, air conditioners or vacuums. Business waste is not accepted here; LASAN says the Gaffey Street, Hyperion and Randall Street centers take it by appointment.

About this site

The center shares grounds with the Los Angeles-Glendale Water Reclamation Plant at 4600 Colorado Boulevard, which is why entry runs through a security gate. The cities of Los Angeles and Glendale co-own that plant and LASAN operates and maintains it; each city pays half the costs and takes an equal share of the recycled water. The plant started up in 1976 as the City’s first water reclamation plant and treats about 20 million gallons of wastewater a day. The City of Glendale runs a separate household hazardous waste site of its own at 780 Flower Street, open to Glendale and La Cañada Flintridge residents only.

Rules at every S.A.F.E. Center

City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County residents may use any S.A.F.E. Center, and staff ask for the address where the waste came from. Centers may close or run modified hours in bad weather. The limits per visit and the days the centers close are set out on the operator’s listing, LA Sanitation.
