McAlpine Creek Park Self-Service Recycling Center, at 8711 Monroe Road in Charlotte, takes curbside recyclables only. The county’s centers list gives no hours for it. The county planned to close this unstaffed drop-off in mid-2026 and move it to a new, staffed center at 5715 Monroe Road. The county has posted no notice that the change has taken place, so call 980-314-3867 before you drive.

Serves: Charlotte trash pickup and drop-off rules.

What this center takes and what it does not

The bins take curbside recyclables only, the same list as Charlotte’s recycling cart: plastic containers with necks, cartons and juice boxes, empty aerosol cans, aluminum, tin and steel cans, glass bottles and jars, cereal boxes, flattened cardboard, clean pizza boxes, brown paper bags, high-grade paper, junk mail, magazines and newspapers.

It does not take trash, plastic bags and film, Styrofoam, shredded paper, food, yard waste or batteries. Clean white foam goes to a county full-service center or the William R. Davie Staffed Recycling Center.

About this site

The drop-off sits in McAlpine Creek Park. The county’s solid waste projects page says the McAlpine center is slated to move to a new, larger location in mid-2026 and that the McAlpine location will then close; all park activities continue.

The planned replacement is a 1.5-acre recycling area inside a new 12-acre park at 5715 Monroe Road, built by the county’s Solid Waste and Park and Recreation departments and due for completion by June 2026. Park and Recreation describes it as open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and for cars and pickup trucks only, with no large trucks. Its latest posted update, June 17, 2026, reported the park still in final construction. The county’s centers page still lists the McAlpine Creek Park site at 8711 Monroe Road.
