North Mecklenburg Disposal and Recycling Center
Mecklenburg County’s full-service center in Huntersville, open during an expansion that limits Saturday business loads.
North Mecklenburg Disposal and Recycling Center is at 12300 N. Statesville Road in Huntersville. Its hours are Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; it is closed Sunday. Because of construction, business and non-residential loads and dump trailers may not drop off on Saturdays, and the center cannot take clean wood waste. Trailers are limited to 12 feet and trees to 24 inches in diameter.
Serves: Charlotte trash pickup and drop-off rules.
What this center takes and what it does not
North Mecklenburg takes the county’s full-service list: household trash, recyclables, plastic bags and film, bulky waste, appliances, electronics, household hazardous waste, tires and mattresses, with the limits shown in the fields. Its own differences:
- No clean wood waste while construction continues.
- Trailers of 12 feet or less for bulky and construction waste, as at Hickory Grove; longer vehicles are redirected. Compost Central takes trailers up to 16 feet.
- Trees up to 24 inches in diameter, as at Hickory Grove. Compost Central and Foxhole take trees up to 48 inches.
- Food scraps: a January 2025 county release planned food scrap collection here by summer 2025, but the county’s current food scrap list names Compost Central, Hickory Grove, Foxhole and William R. Davie, not North Mecklenburg. Call 980-314-3867 before bringing food scraps.
It does not take business hazardous material, explosives, ammunition or radioactive items.
About this site
The center is being expanded and stays open during the work. Phase II-A, built by R.J. Leeper Construction to designs by HDR and FMK Architects, adds a covered acceptance area for recyclables, new asphalt pavement, a noise wall and more room for growth. The Saturday rule for business loads and dump trailers began on February 1, 2025, and the county says it will soon limit commercial load sizes as construction moves forward.
County pages disagree on mulch and compost here. The home and centers pages say only bagged mulch and compost are sold at North Mecklenburg; the center’s own page says that and also that the site no longer sells mulch or compost; the FAQ says all four full-service centers sell them. Call before you go to buy.
