What this center takes and what it does not
Carpet goes into a separate recycling container at Powell, as at Halls, Karns, John Sevier and Tazewell Pike; Carter and Dutchtown take it only as bulky waste.
Powell also takes bagged household trash, bulky items and do-it-yourself demolition materials, plastics 1 and 2, mixed paper, cardboard, cans, scrap metal, tires, car and motorcycle batteries, used oil and other auto fluids, cooking oil, fluorescent bulbs and one propane tank a year.
Clothing donations and electronics recycling are not listed at Powell; the county lists them at Halls, Karns and John Sevier. Glass bottles and jars, green waste, liquid paint, appliances containing refrigerant, shingles, brick, block, concrete and commercial waste are refused.
