Snapper Creek Trash and Recycling Center

A county-owned drop-off on SW 117 Avenue, one of seven Miami-Dade centers listed for used motor oil.

Snapper Creek Trash and Recycling Center, at 2200 SW 117 Avenue, keeps hours of 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. County GIS maps the site on county-owned land in unincorporated Miami-Dade. The county’s service page groups it with the centers that take used motor oil. In its own bid papers the county describes the roll-off container yard as flooding severely in intense rain and staying flooded for days.

What this center takes and what it does not

It takes household trash, tree and yard cuttings, up to 3 cubic yards of construction debris a day and up to 3 cubic yards of fence, car tires (up to four), appliances, mattresses and used motor oil. Food and kitchen garbage are refused. On the county’s service page Snapper Creek is one of seven of the 13 centers listed for used motor oil, with Golden Glades, Moody Drive, North Dade, Palm Springs North, South Miami Heights and Sunset Kendall; it is not among the centers listed for used electronics or cardboard. After Christmas 2025 the county named it one of 11 centers taking natural trees stripped of decorations, chipped into mulch offered to service-area customers the following spring. Household chemicals and gasoline go to one of the two Home Chemical Collection Centers.

About this site

The county owns the land, and its GIS lists the center at 2200 SW 117th Avenue, ZIP 33165, in unincorporated Miami-Dade rather than inside a city. The adopted FY 2025-26 budget places it in Commission District 11 and carries capital program 2000001366 for it, $477 thousand in all: an entrance sign, a perimeter fence, paving, impact-resistant windows, a used oil collection station, stormwater improvements, wider unloading bays and work on the attendant’s house. Those are budgeted plans. Drainage has a solicitation of its own: in 2025 the county sought bids, estimated at $189,384, to add French drains with catch basins in the roll-off yard.

Rules at every county center

The centers are for DSWM waste fee customers, and the attendant scans a Florida driver’s license or ID against the address list. A customer may use any center in the network, not only the nearest one. Who pays, which vehicles are allowed and which holidays close the gates are set out by Miami-Dade Solid Waste.
