Harbor District Yard

A LASAN yard on the closed Gaffey Street Landfill in San Pedro: free tires, mulch and monthly bulky drop-off.

The Harbor District Yard, at 1400 North Gaffey in San Pedro, keeps hours of Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., except City holidays, and opens one Saturday a month for a free bulky item drop-off. It sits on the grounds of the closed Gaffey Street Landfill, where LASAN’s Harbor Yard Trimmings Facility is used for mulching.

Serves: Los Angeles trash pickup and drop-off rules.

What this center takes and what it does not

City of Los Angeles residents may leave up to four tires a calendar year at no charge, rims removed; tires still on rims are turned away. The yard also sells Extra Capacity Tags for overflow trash. It is one of five city sites that hold LASAN’s monthly bulky item drop-off, and furniture, carpet, yard trimmings, shelving and wood are taken on those Saturdays. Mulch travels the other way here: the give-away pile at the same address is free.

About this site

The mulch give-away keeps its own hours, every day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with new mulch delivered on Fridays. The bulky item drop-off Saturdays still ahead in 2026 are October 10, November 21 and December 12; LASAN’s bulky item page gives the hours as 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and its event calendar as 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the January 2 to 31, 2025 season, the Harbor Mulch Facility at the same address took Christmas trees daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rules at every LASAN district yard

The Harbor District Yard is one of six LASAN district yards, and they are open to residents of the City of Los Angeles. Tire drop-off asks for a state-issued photo ID and a current utility bill. The fees, the identification and the rules that apply at all six yards are with the operator: LA Sanitation.
