Kapolei Convenience Center
Oʻahu’s newest city convenience center, in Kalaeloa beside the H-POWER waste-to-energy plant.
The Kapolei Convenience Center, at 91-184 Kaomi Loop, keeps the city’s standard hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, closed Christmas and New Year’s Day. It is the newest of the seven city convenience centers. The city called it the 10th municipal waste disposal facility on Oʻahu and the first new one since the Wahiawā Convenience Center was added in 1992. It was built to shorten the waits Leeward Coast residents faced at Waiʻanae, ʻEwa and Waipahu.
Serves: Honolulu trash pickup and drop-off rules.
What this center takes and what it does not
Kapolei takes household rubbish, bulky items such as furniture, mattresses and carpet, large appliances, green waste and whole natural Christmas trees, passenger and light-truck tires, household gas cylinders and home fire extinguishers, taped loose rechargeable batteries, car batteries and e-waste. Like the other centers except Wahiawā, it takes green waste. It does not take food scraps, and phones and GPS units do not go in its e-waste bin.
About this site
The city lists the center at a Kapolei address; its environmental assessment places it on three city-owned parcels in James Campbell Industrial Park in Kalaeloa, next to the city’s H-POWER waste-to-energy plant. It was built under ENV’s Leeward Base Yard and Convenience Center project. The project’s 2021 assessment planned eight bins, one for each type of waste, and said rubbish left here would be sorted and hauled next door to H-POWER for incineration. The same document planned the center mainly for the growing Kapolei area and for people who had used the ʻEwa, Waipahu and Waiʻanae centers.
