Lakewood City Hall Recycling Drop-off

An unstaffed 24-hour recycling drop-off at the former Lakewood city hall in Old Hickory, Nashville.

Lakewood City Hall Recycling Drop-off sits at 3401 Old Hickory Blvd in Old Hickory, and its hours are 24 hours a day, every day, with no attendant on site. It takes glass, which Nashville curbside carts do not, plus the cart materials, clean and loose in the labeled bins. The building was the city hall of Lakewood until the city’s voters surrendered the charter in 2011 and Metro took over its assets.

What this center takes and what it does not

The bins take glass bottles and jars, paper and mail, cartons, flattened cardboard, food and drink cans, and plastic bottles, jugs and jars. Everything must be clean, loose rather than bagged, and sorted into the four labeled categories. Plastic bags and wrap, foam, and plastic that is not a bottle, jar or jug are out. It is one of the seven Metro drop-off sites that take glass, and because it is unstaffed it is recycling only: bags of household trash, a bulk item and food scraps are what Metro’s four staffed convenience centers take.

About this site

The drop-off is at Lakewood City Hall, 3401 Old Hickory Blvd, in the Old Hickory postal area of Nashville. The building served the City of Lakewood until the city’s voters surrendered the charter by referendum on March 15, 2011, and the Metropolitan Council took over the city’s assets by Resolution RS2011-1635; the former city’s own website is now archived. Metro Waste Services gives the street address as 3401 Old Hickory Blvd, while the archived Lakewood pages give 3401 Hadley Avenue for the police department at the same city hall, so a driver may see either street name. The Davidson County solid waste region’s CY2024 annual progress report lists the same address and the same 24-hour schedule. NDOT also used Lakewood City Hall as one of its Christmas tree drop-off sites for the 2025-26 season, from December 26, 2025 to February 13, 2026.

Rules at every Nashville Department of Waste Services site

Metro runs seven unstaffed recycling drop-offs like this one for residents’ household recycling. The department’s own listing carries the rules for all of its sites, including the residency check, the per-visit limits and the fees that apply at the four staffed convenience centers and the holiday closures: Nashville Department of Waste Services.
