The Metro Nashville Department of Waste Services collects curbside trash every week and recycling every other week from single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and quadplexes in the Urban Services District. Since February 2026 the routes run Tuesday through Friday, and Monday absorbs holiday moves. Find your day and recycling week, A or B, in the Nashville Waste and Recycling app.
Serves: Nashville, Tennessee.
What they collect and how often
Trash goes bagged in the brown Metro cart every week. Recycling goes loose in its own cart every other week on the same weekday. New homes get one trash cart; a second costs $65, and up to two recycling carts are free. Metro Code bans cardboard, yard waste and electronics from the trash.
Find your collection day
Enter the address in the Nashville Waste and Recycling app for iPhone and Android, or on the Collection Calendar and Waste Wizard page, to see your pickup day and recycling week and set reminders.
Set-out rules
Carts go to the curb or alley by 6 a.m. with the lid arrow toward the street; crews come until 5 p.m. Bring the cart in by 7 p.m. Keep it 4 feet from cars, mailboxes, poles and the other cart, with 15 feet of clearance below wires and limbs. Nothing outside the cart is taken.
Holidays
A Monday holiday changes nothing. When a collection holiday falls Tuesday through Friday, only that day’s routes move to Monday of the same week. Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, moves Wednesday routes to Monday, November 9; Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 26, moves Thursday routes to Monday, November 23; Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, moves Friday routes to Monday, December 21; and New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, 2027, moves them to Monday, December 28. The printed 2026 calendars and the app keep regular pickup on the day after Thanksgiving and on Christmas Eve, though both are Metro holidays. The convenience centers close on every Metro holiday. Check the app before those weeks.
Bulk, brush and special items
The department sends items too big for the cart to a convenience center. One bulk item and three bags of trash are free per day. Mattresses and box springs cost $12 each, up to four a month. Tires without rims are free, four a month, and tires on rims cost $5. Small do-it-yourself construction loads cost $20 at Omohundro only. Brush and leaves are collected by the Nashville Department of Transportation.
Hazardous waste, electronics and drop-off
The four convenience centers, Anderson Lane, East, Ezell Pike and Omohundro, open Tuesday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for Davidson County residents with a Tennessee driver’s license. Household hazardous waste is free at East and Ezell Pike, up to 15 gallons or 100 pounds per household a month: oil-based paint, gasoline, pesticides, rechargeable and car batteries, fluorescent bulbs. Latex paint and propane tanks are refused. Electronics, up to 100 pounds a day, go free to East, Ezell Pike or Omohundro.
Missed pickup and contacts
Report a missed trash or recycling pickup, or another collection problem, through hubNashville: online, in the hubNashville app, at 311 or at 615-862-5000. For where to take a specific item, call 615-924-2633. Waste Services is at 1600 2nd Ave N, Nashville, TN 37208.
What this is not
Homes in the General Services District, apartment complexes anywhere in Davidson County and businesses needing more service use a private hauler or their property manager; every private hauler must offer recycling. Metro can empty trash dumpsters at Urban Services District complexes if the owner asks. The app shows NDOT’s brush schedule, but brush and leaves are not Waste Services routes.
