South Dade Home Chemical Collection Center

Miami-Dade’s household chemical and electronics drop-off on the South Dade Landfill grounds at Gate B.

The South Dade Home Chemical Collection Center sits at Gate B of the county’s South Dade Landfill, 23707 SW 97th Avenue, next to the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant, Black Point Marina and Biscayne Bay. Its hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is one of two such centers in Miami-Dade, and the landfill’s own traffic uses Gate A.

Serves: Miami-Dade County trash pickup and drop-off rules.

What this center takes and what it does not

Oil-based and liquid latex paint, pesticides, solvents and pool chemicals; computers, TVs, printers, phones and other electronics; unbroken fluorescent bulbs; propane tanks; empty oxygen tanks; button batteries; aerosol cans; rechargeable, lithium-ion and car batteries; motor oil and oil filters; ink cartridges. The county’s A to Z list sends household gasoline to the Home Chemical Collection Centers, in cans holding no more than 10 gallons in all, two 5-gallon containers. Business waste is refused, as are RV, forklift and fixed kitchen propane tanks. The county’s 2025-26 Christmas tree drop-off ran at West Dade, not here.

About this site

The center shares the South Dade Landfill grounds with the landfill itself: the landfill takes garbage at Gate A, the chemical center at Gate B. The county’s service page gives the address as Homestead; the county’s own GIS layer of solid waste sites lists the same address in unincorporated Miami-Dade, so the city line is not settled. Chem Again, the giveaway shelf of usable paints and cleaners, runs here, and the county posts a list of what this center has on hand, by product and quantity. The adopted FY 2025-26 capital plan budgets grounds and building work at 23707 SW 97 Avenue that names the HCCC office and canopy, and sets aside further access-road, building and grounds improvements and emergency backup generators for this center and the 58 Street center; both are budgeted plans. The adopted budget and the county’s GIS agree that the site lies in Commission District 8. DSWM is designing a Waste Facility Complex at the former Old South Dade landfill, west of 9350 SW 248th Street, that would include a household hazardous waste collection center; the county does not say it would replace this one.

Rules at both Home Chemical Collection Centers

The two centers, this one and West Dade at 8801 NW 58 Street, take household chemicals and electronics from Miami-Dade residents and not from businesses, and staff ask for a driver’s license before a vehicle is let in. The rest of the county-wide rules sit on the operator’s listing, Miami-Dade Solid Waste.
