Waipahu Convenience Center
A cramped city drop-off on Waipahu Depot Street that ENV plans to replace with a larger center down the road.
The Waipahu Convenience Center, at 94-071 Waipahu Depot Street, is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and closed Christmas and New Year’s Day; ENV’s plan keeps the same hours at the new site. Only two or three vehicles fit on its horseshoe-shaped offloading ramp at a time, so lines of seven or more cars are common on Waipahu Depot Street.
Serves: Honolulu trash pickup and drop-off rules.
What this center takes and what it does not
Waipahu handles the standard city mix: household rubbish, furniture, mattresses and carpet, big appliances, green waste, whole natural Christmas trees, car and light-truck tires, home gas cylinders and fire extinguishers, car batteries, taped rechargeable batteries and e-waste. It is one of six centers with a green waste bin, the exception being Wahiawā. Food scraps stay out, as do phones and GPS units in the e-waste bin.
About this site
ENV’s December 2025 draft environmental assessment says the center manages about 12,800 tons of waste a year, roughly 35 tons a day, from about 300 residents on a typical day.
ENV plans to move the center further south on Waipahu Depot Street, to the former Waipahu Incinerator property next to the Honolulu Police Academy. The new site is planned with a separate entrance and exit and a bypass lane. In July 2025 the city began demolishing the old incinerator at 93-65 Waipahu Depot Street to clear the ground for a new, much larger convenience center. The December 2025 assessment scheduled construction from the first quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027.
