Waiʻanae Convenience Center
The Waiʻanae Valley Road drop-off that the City Council has urged the city to run around the clock.
The Waiʻanae Convenience Center, at 85-572 Waiʻanae Valley Road, keeps hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and closes on Christmas and New Year’s Day. In June 2024 the City Council adopted a resolution calling it one of the city’s busiest centers and urging ENV to operate it 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The city’s drop-off list still gives 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Serves: Honolulu trash pickup and drop-off rules.
What this center takes and what it does not
The Waiʻanae center accepts household rubbish; bulky pieces like furniture, mattresses and carpet; large appliances; green waste and whole natural Christmas trees; tires from cars and light trucks; household gas tanks and fire extinguishers; car batteries, taped rechargeable batteries and e-waste. Along with five other centers it has green waste, which Wahiawā lacks. It refuses food scraps, and its e-waste bin is not for phones or GPS units.
About this site
The Council adopted Resolution 24-81, CD1 on June 5, 2024. It recorded residents’ complaints about the center’s limited hours, strict limits on the types of refuse it takes and inadequate capacity, and linked them to more illegal dumping in the community. Besides round-the-clock service, the resolution asks ENV to review leasing property for a new city-run convenience center to add bin space in Waiʻanae, and to hold at least four community cleanups a year.
Waits here were one reason the city built the Kapolei Convenience Center: the city said Leeward Coast residents had complained about long waits at Waiʻanae, ʻEwa and Waipahu.
