The Office of Solid Waste Services, part of Atlanta’s Department of Public Works, serves over 100,000 households. It empties the green garbage cart and the blue recycling cart weekly on the same day, takes yard trimmings every other week and bulk items by appointment. The day depends on the address: look it up in the Solid Waste Services Collection Tool or ask ATL311.

Serves: Atlanta, Georgia; see the Atlanta trash pickup schedule for pickup days, holidays, bulk rules and drop-off sites.

What they collect and how often

The garbage cart holds 96 gallons. Recyclables go in loose; a cart with plastic bags in it is skipped. Since February 16, 2026, booked bulk pickups come on the regular collection day.

Find your collection day

Enter the street address in the Solid Waste Services Collection Tool. ATL311 calls the lookup the Waste Wizard: My Schedule shows the day, and Get a Reminder sends reminders. Yard-trimming weeks are posted on the Service Announcements page.

Set-out rules

Carts go out by 7 a.m. and come back by 9 a.m. the next day; a late cart waits a week. Yard trimmings go in paper yard bags or a marked container of 32 gallons or less, never plastic: up to 20 bags of 35 pounds, branches up to 4 feet long. Keep carts 6 feet from bulk.

Holidays

On a one-day-delay holiday the city collects nothing, and collection runs a day late for the rest of that week. Still ahead in 2026, Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26) and Christmas (Friday, December 25) are one-day delays. Indigenous Peoples’ Day (October 12) and Veterans Day (November 11) keep the regular schedule.

Bulk, brush and special items

Book bulk at least one business day ahead in the collection tool or through ATL311. Single-family homes get 12 free pickups a year, up to 8 cubic yards each; each pickup beyond 12 costs $349.96. No tires, auto parts or building materials. Set out after 7 p.m. the night before. Twenty-one or more yard bags are booked as bulk. Residents may also drop yard debris at Hartsfield Landfill, 2175 James Jackson Parkway.

Hazardous waste, electronics and drop-off

The city has no hazardous waste collection and points to its partner CHaRM, 1110 Hill Street SE, by appointment (404-600-6386; some items carry a fee). Atlanta Recycles Day, the third Saturday from February to December at Greenbriar Mall, takes small electronics, tires and papers for shredding.

Missed pickup and contacts

Crews may work until 3:30 p.m. on your collection day. After that, report a missed garbage, recycling, yard trimming or bulk pickup through ATL311: 3-1-1 or 404-546-0311, atl311@atlantaga.gov or the online form, weekdays 7 a.m. to midnight. A missed bulk pickup must be reported within two business days, or it has to be booked again.

What this is not

Service follows a City of Atlanta solid-waste account, billed through the Fulton County Tax Commissioner. The city provides no recycling to apartment buildings: owners of apartment buildings, condominiums and townhome associations with six or more units must hire a recycling hauler under city code section 130-38. CHaRM is a partner, not a city facility.
