Auburn, Alabama, said bulk trash and yard-debris collection would run late during the week of October 12, 2026 because crews were handling a heavy volume of storm debris. Regular garbage and recycling stayed on their normal schedule. The city told residents to leave correctly prepared debris piles at the curb until crews reach them (City of Auburn).

What is delayed

The October 13 update applies to bulk trash and yard debris. Auburn said the volume left by the recent storm was slowing those collections and that crews were working through the routes.

Household garbage and recycling were not included in the delay notice. Residents should continue using their regular collection day for those carts and keep household bags out of storm-debris piles.

How Auburn wants debris set out

The city’s preparation rules are specific:

  • Put bulk trash and storm-related yard debris in one pile at the curb.
  • Keep the pile at least three feet from mailboxes and other fixed objects.
  • Have it out by 6 a.m. on the regular garbage and recycling collection day.
  • Bundle or bag loose material where appropriate so it does not blow into the street.
  • Cut limbs and branches into pieces shorter than five feet.
  • Leave household garbage in the normal cart, not in the debris pile.

A pile that blocks a mailbox, mixes ordinary trash with branches or contains oversize limbs takes longer and can create a safety problem for the collection crew.

What residents should do while they wait

Auburn’s update asks residents to leave yard-debris piles at the curb until they are collected. It does not give a replacement date for each route, so the delay is not a new permanent schedule.

Keep the pile out of traffic and away from storm drains, hydrants, utility boxes and parked vehicles. If the material shifts into the street or drainage path, make the pile safe without adding household garbage.
