Boerne, Texas, now picks up garbage and recycling on the same day. The combined schedule took effect January 5, 2026. For most homes, the recycling day simply moved to the existing garbage day. Herff Ranch residents moved to Thursday for both, with the first pickup on January 8, 2026. WM runs the routes under contract with the city (City of Boerne).

How the new days were set
Before the change, many Boerne homes had separate garbage and recycling days. “For most customers, your recycling day will simply move to your current garbage collection day,” the city says. Its own example: if recycling came on Tuesday and garbage on Wednesday, both now come on Wednesday.
Some homes got a new day for both carts instead. The city says that for them the two pickups moved to the same day, but it could be a different day than before. Herff Ranch is the one area the city named: both carts there moved to Thursday (My Boerne News, City of Boerne).
The city gave the reason as reliable service and balanced truck loads across Boerne. WM updated its routes to cover the whole city and build in room to grow.
How to find your day
Your day depends on your address. Boerne posts two ways to look it up: the interactive map of collection days and the collection service map (PDF). The city first announced the change in a news flash on November 21, 2025. Questions go to Boerne Utilities Customer Care and Billing at 830-249-9511, option 1, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Set-out rules
Boerne uses a green wheeled bin with a green lid for trash and a green wheeled bin with a yellow lid for recycling. Bins can go out after 5 p.m. the evening before and must be at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day. Place them within one foot of the curb, five feet from obstructions and four feet apart, with the handles facing your house. The city also asks residents to break down cardboard in the recycling cart and tie trash bags before they go in the garbage cart.
Bulk and brush did not move
The January change left bulk and brush alone. WM collects bulky items once a month, during the second full week of the month. WM’s brush pickup runs the same week, on the same day as garbage and recycling. City crews run a separate brush collection in the third week of the month.
The monthly rate went up too
The same city notice listed new rates under the updated WM contract. Standard service went from $22.83 to $24.96 a month. An additional waste cart went from $30.70 to $33.22. The rate covers trash, recycling, brush, bulk and hazardous waste collection.
What this is not
This is a change for residential Boerne Utilities customers. Businesses contract with WM directly, at 800-800-5804. It is not a holiday rule either: the city says usually only Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day affect pickup.
