Columbus will not collect household trash on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, because of Veterans Day. Residents whose rotating collection day falls on or after the holiday should expect service one day later for the rest of that week.

The schedule comes from the City of Columbus Find My Collection Day page, checked October 18. The city lists Veterans Day among its 2026 collection holidays and says the rotating trash schedule moves forward by one day after a holiday. Friday collections move to Saturday.

What changes during Veterans Day week

Columbus trash service runs on a color-coded rotating schedule rather than a fixed weekday for every household. The practical rule for the November 11 holiday is simple:

  • No city trash pickup on Wednesday, November 11.
  • A Wednesday route is collected Thursday.
  • A Thursday route is collected Friday.
  • A Friday route is collected Saturday.

The city advises residents to confirm their exact date through its address-based collection lookup. The holiday shift applies to trash collection. Recycling and yard-waste service follow fixed schedules and should be checked separately in the same city calendar.

Convenience centers also close November 11

Columbus lists both Waste and Reuse Convenience Centers as closed on Veterans Day. The city’s convenience-center page names November 11 in its 2026 holiday schedule.

On regular weeks, the centers at 2100 Alum Creek Drive and 1550 Georgesville Road operate Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The city says they are also closed on Tuesdays after a Monday holiday. Residents should not leave material outside the gates.

The centers accept several items that do not belong in curbside trash, but each material has its own limits. The city page lists items such as electronics, household hazardous waste, tires and certain reusable goods. Check the current acceptance list before loading a vehicle.

How to avoid a missed collection

  1. Enter your address in the city’s collection-day lookup.
  2. Note the color and the adjusted date for Veterans Day week.
  3. Put the cart out no earlier than 5 p.m. the night before and by 6 a.m. on collection day.
  4. Keep the cart at least three feet from cars, mailboxes and other objects where possible.
  5. Bring it back from the curb after service.

The city’s schedule can change for severe weather or operational disruptions. Residents can call 311 or 614-645-3111 if a route does not appear after the published holiday delay.

Planning beyond Veterans Day

Thanksgiving follows two weeks later, on Thursday, November 26. Columbus also lists that day as a collection holiday, so households should consult the city calendar again rather than assume the Veterans Day date carries forward.
