Arizona trash pickup is run by cities, counties and private haulers, not by the state, and your pickup day comes from your city’s or hauler’s own lookup. Among the largest cities, Phoenix, Tucson and Mesa collect curbside themselves. Arizona has no statewide bottle deposit, PaintCare paint, mattress or electronics recycling program.
Find your city
- Phoenix — Phoenix Public Works. Trash and recycling on the same day, different trucks. Bulk is appointment-only, four times a year.
Other large cities and their official collection pages:
- Tucson: City of Tucson Environmental Services Department. The standard monthly fee covers weekly trash collection, every-other-week recycling and Brush & Bulky collection twice a year. Official page ↗ Look up your collection day ↗
- Mesa: City of Mesa Solid Waste Management Department. Trash and recycling barrels are collected on all holidays as normal. Official page ↗ Look up your collection day ↗

National haulers (Republic Services, WM, Waste Connections) hold contracts in many places; the city or county names the hauler for each street.
State-level rules
- Container deposit: No statewide container deposit law. NCSL names the ten states with beverage container deposit laws (California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oregon and Vermont), and Arizona is not one of them. Source ↗
- Paint: Not a PaintCare state. PaintCare’s fee schedule lists the 12 states and DC where it runs programs, and Arizona is not among them. Leftover paint goes through the local household hazardous waste program; see paint. Source ↗
- Mattresses: No statewide mattress take-back program. The Mattress Recycling Council runs statewide Bye Bye Mattress programs only in California, Connecticut, Oregon and Rhode Island. See mattresses. Source ↗
- Electronics: No statewide electronics law. NCSL’s list of the 25 states and DC with electronics recycling laws, updated October 2023, does not include Arizona. Source ↗
State agency
- State agency: Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), Waste Programs Division — Solid Waste Section and Recycling Program. It permits and inspects landfills and other solid waste facilities, and its Recycling Program helps communities build recycling programs, find markets for recycled materials and educate residents.
