Columbus Indigenous Peoples Day trash collection is off on Monday, October 12, 2026, and the rest of the week’s trash routes slide forward one day. The City of Columbus announced the change in an October 8 release; recycling and yard waste stay on their regular days (City of Columbus).

Trash by collection color
For households assigned a collection color, the city rotates the color schedule forward by one day for the holiday week:
| Day | Date | Trash collection |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | October 12 | None; no trash collection |
| Tuesday | October 13 | Gray |
| Wednesday | October 14 | Navy |
| Thursday | October 15 | Pink |
| Friday | October 16 | Ruby |
| Monday | October 19 | Gold |
The city says the color schedule rotates forward again for Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11.
Households without a collection color follow a simpler rule: if your trash day falls on or after the holiday, pickup is one day late that week.
Recycling and yard waste are not affected
Weekly recycling and biweekly yard waste run on the regular schedule. If Monday, October 12 is your recycling or yard waste day, set the carts out that morning as usual.
Convenience centers close Tuesday
The city’s two Waste and Reuse Convenience Centers, Alum Creek at 2100 Alum Creek Drive and Georgesville at 1550 Georgesville Road, are closed on Tuesday, October 13. Both reopen on Wednesday, October 14, with normal hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
City department offices, including the Parking Violations Bureau, are closed on October 12, and parking at city kiosks and meters is not enforced that day, though posted restrictions such as rush-hour and loading zones still apply.
How to check your day
Use the city’s Find My Collection Day lookup or the free PickUp CBUS app for your schedule and reminders. Questions go to the 311 Service Center at (614) 645-3111 or 311@columbus.gov. The standing rules, carts and drop-off sites are on Columbus trash pickup.
