New York trash pickup is run by cities, counties and private haulers, not by the state, and your pickup day comes from your city’s or hauler’s own lookup. Among the largest cities, New York City, Buffalo and Yonkers collect curbside themselves. New York has a bottle deposit, a PaintCare paint drop-off program and an electronics recycling law, but no statewide mattress program.

Find your city

  • New York City — DSNY address lookup, official NYC Bin rules for 1–9 unit buildings, and the Empire Bin rollout. Full bin enforcement began September 8, 2026.
  • Newburgh — City DPW Sanitation Division: garbage twice a week by North or South Side, recycling weekly by section, Wednesday bulk by appointment and Orange County’s transfer station at 9 Orr Avenue.

Other large cities and their official collection pages:

  • Buffalo: Buffalo Department of Public Works, Sanitation Department (recycling is collected by a city contractor). Each property that pays the residential user fee gets weekly garbage collection in a city tote and weekly recycling, plus three bulk items a week on the regular collection day. • Yonkers: Yonkers Department of Public Works. Garbage is collected at the curb twice a week and recyclables once a week, separated into commingled containers and paper. Official page ↗ Look up your collection day ↗
