Newburgh’s free bulk item pickup has two 2026 dates left: Wednesday, September 30, and Wednesday, December 16. Residents of the City of Newburgh must register by phone by 3 p.m. on the Friday before, so the deadline for September 30 is 3 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026. Each household may set out up to five items (City of Newburgh).

Three dates in 2026
The City of Newburgh announced its no-cost 2026 bulk item pickup on April 9, 2026. The program has three citywide collection dates, all on Wednesdays: June 24, September 30 and December 16. The June date has passed. After September 30, the last free date of the year is December 16 (City of Newburgh).
The free program is not new. In 2025 the city ran it on four dates: March 26, June 25, September 24 and December 17 (City of Newburgh). The 2026 schedule has three.
How to sign up
Pickup is by appointment only. Residents must register in advance by calling the Department of Public Works Sanitation Division at 845-565-1082 or the Department of Public Works at 845-565-3297. The call must come no later than 3 p.m. on the Friday before the collection date. For September 30, that is 3 p.m. on Friday, September 25. For December 16, it is 3 p.m. on Friday, December 11.
In a multi-unit building, each unit can schedule its own pickup (City of Newburgh).
What the city takes
The free pickup takes indoor and outdoor furniture, washers and dryers, and tires. It does not take building materials, car parts other than tires, or hazardous items.
Each household may schedule up to five items per collection date. Anything over five is left at the curb, and the resident has to remove it. Items go out at the curb no earlier than the night before collection (City of Newburgh).
What this is not
The free dates are separate from Newburgh’s regular bulk item pickup, which runs every Wednesday for a fee. For the weekly service, residents call Sanitation at 845-565-1082 or 845-565-3297 before 3 p.m. on the Tuesday before. They prepay in person at 88 Pierces Road with cash or a money order, or mail the payment with a phone number. Small items such as mattresses, grills and bed frames cost $10 each. Large items such as sofas, washers, dryers and monitors cost $20. Refrigerators and large TVs cost $30. There is no bulk pickup on city holidays.
Yard waste is also separate. The city picks it up free on Wednesdays, in plastic or biodegradable bags, with the same Tuesday call-in deadline (City of Newburgh).
