Wyoming trash pickup is run by cities, counties and private haulers, not by the state.
Your pickup day comes from your city’s or hauler’s own lookup. Among the largest cities, Cheyenne, Casper and Gillette collect curbside themselves. Wyoming has no statewide bottle deposit, PaintCare paint or mattress program.

The largest Wyoming cities and their official collection pages:
- Cheyenne: City of Cheyenne Public Works, Sanitation Division. The city provides bi-weekly recycling service to all city residents, and recyclables must be dry, clean and loose rather than bagged. Official page ↗ Look up your collection day ↗
- Casper: City of Casper Solid Waste Division. Monthly residential trash service includes weekly trash collection, bi-monthly extra collection, a monthly solid waste facility pass and recycling at depots rather than at the curb. Official page ↗
- Gillette: City of Gillette Public Works, Solid Waste Division. The Solid Waste Division collects all city residential and commercial trash five days a week within city limits, entering residential areas at 7:00 a.m., so roll-outs must be at the curb by then. Who collects in Wyoming
- State law requires all solid waste to be disposed of, treated or recycled at facilities approved by both WDEQ’s Solid and Hazardous Waste Division and the county, city or town in which the facility is located. Source ↗
- WDEQ publishes a downloadable directory of recycling and diversion programs in towns throughout Wyoming, since collection and drop-off programs are run by individual communities. Source ↗
National haulers (Republic Services, WM, Waste Connections) hold contracts in many places; the city or county names the hauler for each street.
State-level rules
- Container deposit: No statewide container deposit law. An October 2024 Connecticut Office of Legislative Research issue brief names all ten bottle bill states (California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Oregon and Vermont), and Wyoming is not among them. Source ↗
- Paint: Not a PaintCare state. PaintCare lists the twelve states plus the District of Columbia where it operates, and Wyoming is not among them. Leftover paint goes through the local household hazardous waste program; see paint. Source ↗
- Mattresses: No statewide mattress take-back program. The Mattress Recycling Council says its Bye Bye Mattress program operates statewide only in California, Connecticut, Oregon and Rhode Island, so Wyoming has no state mattress stewardship program. See mattresses. Source ↗
State agency
- State agency: Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality - Solid and Hazardous Waste Division. It permits and oversees community landfills, transfer and baling stations and other solid waste facilities, and runs a recycling program that publishes studies and a statewide recycling directory.
