Arkansas trash pickup is run by cities, counties and private haulers, not by the state, and your pickup day comes from your city’s or hauler’s own lookup. Among the largest cities, Little Rock, Fayetteville and Fort Smith collect curbside themselves. Arkansas has a ban on yard waste in landfills, but no statewide bottle deposit, PaintCare paint, mattress or electronics recycling program.

Who collects in Arkansas
- Arkansas is divided into regional solid waste management districts, and DEQ tells residents to contact their district with questions about local garbage disposal or recycling opportunities. Source ↗
- State rules require each regional solid waste board to designate at least one recyclable materials collection centre or system in every county of its district, accepting three or more materials. Source ↗
National haulers (Republic Services, WM, Waste Connections) hold contracts in many places; the city or county names the hauler for each street.
State-level rules
- Container deposit: No statewide container deposit law. NCSL says ten states and Guam have beverage container deposit systems, and Arkansas is not one of them. Source ↗
- Paint: Not a PaintCare state. PaintCare says it operates programs in twelve states and the District of Columbia; Arkansas is not among them. Leftover paint goes through the local household hazardous waste program; see paint. Source ↗
- Mattresses: No statewide mattress take-back program. The Mattress Recycling Council says its Bye Bye Mattress program operates statewide only in California, Connecticut, Oregon and Rhode Island. See mattresses. Source ↗
- Electronics: No statewide electronics law. DEQ says the Legislature gave it authority to ban e-waste from municipal solid waste landfills beginning in January 2010 but that the ban has not been put into place, so residents may dispose of e-waste with other household items unless their local landfill restricts it. - Yard waste: Banned from landfills statewide. Arkansas Code 8-6-220 makes it illegal for yard waste (grass clippings, leaves and shrubbery trimmings) to be placed in a solid waste management facility solely for disposal, except for fugitive amounts. Source ↗
State agency
- State agency: Arkansas Department of Energy and Environment, Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) — Office of Land Resources, Solid Waste Management. It permits and inspects landfills, transfer stations, composting and waste-tire facilities, monitors groundwater near landfills, and maintains the Statewide Solid Waste Management Plan with Arkansas’s regional solid waste management districts.
